Introduction
The world is not what it once was. What once began as a tale of a world standing on the brink of self-destruction has since gone through several lifetimes. The Convergence, as they call it, violently pulled the various worlds together as a means to protect the people of the worlds from an ultimately unavoidable demise. The Espers, too late made aware of the fate of the worlds, combined their efforts to create what is now known as the Converged World.
However, their efforts were too little, too late. While the lives of many men, women and children were spared, the First Convergence birthed a world both violent and unstable. The very balance of life and death was overturned – even the Lifestream was nearly dried up. Despite all of their efforts, the Espers were far too exhausted to shape the world closer to perfection. Thus, they rested.
During the Espers’ slumber, the people of the world slowly but surely started anew. Most were unaware of the hows and whys about the Convergence, but time eventually came to shed light and understanding. Though within a few years, the world saw a massive upheaval.
The Second Convergence was more violent than the first. Knowing full well that those already in the Converged World were in danger but also that they were powerless to control it, the Espers saved as many people as they could. The Esper Phoenix presided over a court of her kin and explained to their audience that the world had been changed once again. She offered to them a new world where their lives would start anew once again.
As before, life continued on but with new places and new faces to get acquainted with. As history recollects, a new world was inadvertently pulled into the Converged World. Theirs was impacted heavily by the manipulation of time-–an effect, as would be revealed later, that came along with them.
Years rolled past yet again. World powers rose and fell, people came and went, and the world slowly but surely began the slow and laborious task of restoring balance-–and it would have succeeded, were it not for the Four Fiends. As the very epitome of the four elements, these malicious creatures held within them the already fragile balance of the world. In order to secure the future of the world, they had to be destroyed…and destroyed, they were.
The destruction of the Four Fiends was a blessing in disguise. While the balance of the world was secured, the sudden shift caused yet another cataclysm.
The sky went pitch black and even the wind stopped, but only momentarily before the ground erupted into chaotic rumbling and shaking. The change was later noted as the easiest transition in history, as the upheaval passed almost as swiftly as it came.
It has been nearly five years since then. The world has grown and changed in ways even the Espers could not have foreseen. The passage of these years has been full of agonizing strife and even the purest joy. And the Converged World has endured.
This is where your story begins.
